October Challenge

This October, from the first through the thirty-first, I will run once a day.

Why? Because I've been slacking. Part of it's my fault, part of it is life. One of my 2010 New Year's Resolutions was to work up to and run a full marathon. When I got Heidi that plan went out the window. Typically in a year I run 365+ miles; at least a mile/day. Right now I'm not even close to that personal standard. So, I'm doing the opposite of going cold-turkey: I'm going hot chicken. I'm going to lace up and get out there and run once a day. It can be a quick 2-miler, or it can be 2 laps around Waterford Lakes Town Center, whatever. Bottom line is that I am happier all around when running is a part of my routine.

A great bit of motivation is Heidi. She loves to run with me and running is great for her. It's time I can spend getting healthy and with my baby; a win-win for everyone!

So. I'm posting this so you can get involved. No, I'm not asking you to run, silly. I'm asking you to hold me accountable. Drop in on me during October and ask if I've ran that day. If I don't run one day, I will pay $3 to the first person who finds out I didn't run that day. Now we're both interested. See how that works?

Here's my plan for the next few days:

Tomorrow is the first of October. I have work and then an eye dilation appointment at 4:45 PM. After that I'll head home, gear up, grab Heidi and run around Waterford Lakes Town Center which is a perfect 5K.

Friday night I might be out late, so I'll plan to run Saturday after my group meeting for my master's; so, around 5 or 6.

Sunday I'll be busy packing for my trip to Maryland, but a run will be a nice stress reliever. I'll aim to run in the morning before church.

I'll post my plan for the fourth through the tenth after I find out what my schedule looks like while I'm in Maryland.

Cheers!

Amanda

Please Help Keep Fleet People's Dog Park!

I've just learned that the City of Winter Park wants to do away with one of the nation's BEST dog parks, Fleet People's Dog Park. I know Heidi LOVES this dog park, especially with the lake and all the space to run around. Please support the effort of keeping the dog park by completing the survey, linked below. Thank you so much for you help!

--------------------------

In order to present relevant data to the City of Winter Park and to let them know that the Fleet Peeples Park is important to the residents of Winter Park and also to the residents of the neighboring cities and towns, please fill out this brief survey below.

The results will be viewed by concerned civic groups and will be presented to the Parks Board Commissioners of the City of Winter Park.

Please copy and paste the link to this survey into an email and PLEASE send it to anyone you know who comes to the park. Our success will be measured in numbers, so please ask as many people as you know to fill out this survey.

amara | 86 HBC Mission Statement

Okay. This is my last task for Etsy's Holiday Boot Camp (HBC) Week 1: write a mission statement.

Thoughts: I love to be make crafts. As in sewing projects, I enjoy the process of seeing the many pieces come together. I want to share my passion with people, and don't mind making a few bucks while I'm at it! Last year I got the hang of things but my Etsy shop, amara | 86, fell to the wayside when I got Heidi. Now that she's a bit older, I can start investing time into my shop. I have a few new ideas for projects up my sleeve, too! So here's my mission statement:

Through my passion of creating hand-made goods, specifically with yarn, thread, and fabric, I will fill my Etsy shop, amara | 86, with new items for others around the world to enjoy. I will map out my days between now and 31 December 2010 to set aside time to work on my creations. I will be inventive and run with fresh ideas. I will stick to Danielle's HBC weekly check lists. I will be an Etsy Success!

Etsy Holiday Boot Camp

Holidays are nearing, and I want to make some cool creations to bring in a some extra money. To keep me focused, I'm taking the Etsy Holiday Boot Camp Pledge:

I, Amanda Bennett, pledge to participate in the Etsy Success Holiday Boot Camp to the best of my abilities. I vow to check in every week, do my homework and support my fellow Holiday Boot Campers. I will read the weekly newsletters and blog posts, check in on the weekly forum thread, read the weekly blog post, check off the checklists and salute the mascot. I promise to share what I've learned with those who need it, support my fellow Etsy indiepreneurs and, most of all, have a positive and persistent attitude. I understand that together we can spread the word about our handmade and vintage goods, making this holiday season a more unique and meaningful one to gift givers and give-ees everywhere!

Alz Assoc. Memory Walk

I got an email from work, Lockheed Martin, inviting me to participate in the Alzheimer Association's Memory Walk on Saturday, 30 October 2010. My grandmother, Imogene Baugher, suffers from advanced Alzheimer's, so immediately this was something I wanted to support. My fundraising goal is $100. An added bonus: the walk not only allows dogs but has a Halloween Costume for them! I'm going to take a shot at sewing my first puppy costume for Heidi.

If you would like to support me in my fundraising, please make donations at this website:http://mworlando2010.kintera.org/forimogene

Thank you,

Amanda
